United for Water, San Román School
The San Román Institute in the City of Buenos Aires, together with other schools across Latin America, is carrying out its community project “United for Water”, where several countries—such as Argentina, Colombia, and Chile—come together under the shared mission of protecting water.
Water is a vital and limited resource. Despite its abundance in some territories, the availability of safe drinking water is at risk due to climate change, pollution, and excessive use in human activities. In this context, the water footprint serves as an indicator that helps us understand how much water we consume both directly and indirectly in everyday life—from what we drink to what is required to produce the food we eat or the clothes we wear.
This project proposes an international and collaborative experience, connecting schools to work together on water conservation, share experiences from each region, and build a shared awareness that transcends borders.
The initiative seeks to promote environmental awareness about the importance of water as a vital and limited resource, understand and calculate personal and community water footprints, develop school-based strategies for the responsible use of water in classrooms, bathrooms, playgrounds, and cafeterias, foster the exchange of knowledge and environmental practices among schools in Argentina, Colombia, and Chile, and integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—especially SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.
It also encourages conducting environmental assessments through environmental committees, learning workshops, dissemination of acquired knowledge, awareness campaigns, and more.
